This session explores the perspectives of Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, focusing on his vision for revitalizing Islamic jurisprudence as a means to reconcile tradition with modernity. It emphasizes Al-Azhar's role in promoting the practice of ijtihad (in english: independent juristic reasoning) and renewal, which aids in developing an enlightened religious discourse that adapts to the evolving realities of the modern world.
The session will also address Imam Al-Tayeb's initiatives to foster peaceful coexistence and create a culture of interfaith dialogue through his intellectual approaches that advocate for moderation and the rejection of extremism. It will examine how this vision has impacted efforts to combat radical ideologies and uphold the principles of tolerance and social integration, ultimately striving for stability and development in culturally and religiously diverse societies.
The session will also gather a distinguished panel of scholars and thinkers who specialize in Islamic thought, along with key individuals engaged in intercultural dialogue, to discuss the future prospects of legal renewal and its significance in forging a more harmonious and cooperative society.
